We all have strong memories of wonderful holidays spent with family and friends. As well as the sights and sounds of the destination, there’s a good chance that food looms large in these reminiscences too.
That is certainly the case for many Londoners; 54 per cent of whom told SACO in a recent survey that eating fish and chips is an absolute must when it comes to having a staycation.
This experience can only be bettered by enjoying the traditional meal in Padstow Harbour, which 17 per cent of respondents said was their happy place.
But fish and chips are not the only foods that Londoners love during their holidays: 22 per cent would like to be enjoying an ice cream on Brighton Beach; and 15.5 per cent a Cornish pasty in St Ives.
Interestingly, these foods are quite traditional, which makes us associate them with holidays in our minds.
They’re not the kinds of things we eat every day, but the treats that spell the beach, time spent with family and more than just a little bit of nostalgia.
Added all together, they represent a recipe for a staycation that is ultimately very British.
A spokesperson for SACO said: “Britain really does have it all, whether that’s food and drink, leisure, accommodation and entertainment, or the great outdoors and sprawling beaches.”
To make more of an occasion of food and drink while on holiday, 22.9 per cent of respondents said that having a pub lunch in the Cotswolds was their happy place.
It’s common to take time over a meal while on holiday, which is not always possible in everyday life, when the stresses and strains of routine take over.
There’s more of a chance to catch up with loved ones and sharing in the best of British food is a great way to do that.
While escaping to Padstow, Brighton or the Cotswolds is very tempting, you can also enjoy traditional foods during your serviced apartment stay in London.
The capital is home to some world-class fish and chip restaurants, as well as proper London pubs, meaning that delicious lunch is not too far away.
Finding your happy place during your staycation is not hard, as Britain is home to some world-class locations and fitting dishes to match. Treat your taste buds to create memories that will live long in the mind.
