How to do London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week SACO

London may be one of the most fashionable cities in the world already, but between February 19th and 23rd, it gets even chicer. London Fashion Week (LFW) is taking place this month, which will see fashionistas of the world converge on the capital.

Like Fashion Week Paris, Milan and New York, LFW offers you many opportunities to see what trends lie ahead, rub shoulders with celebs at events and get your own style noticed. Of course, you first need to know where to go.

If you’re lucky enough to be in London for LFW, it is definitely worth seeing if you can get tickets or, at the very least, head to some of the hotspots where you’ll get to feel part of the event.

Brewer Street

While LFW has previously taken place at Somerset House, the British Fashion Council has now swapped this location for the compact car park on Brewer Street in Soho. This is definitely the place to be if you want to catch a glimpse of the action.

There just happens to be a Bill’s restaurant right opposite the car park, so you can grab a coffee and some lunch while people-watching out the window to see what’s going on. You’re also closer to some great shops, so you can pick up some new items yourself while increasing your chances of bumping into some famous fashionistas.

Keep an eye out for any models in new collections, famous faces, designers of note and – of course – some of the best-dressed people in London. Spending a day or two in the vicinity of Brewer Street will allow you to people-watch to your heart’s content and soak up the atmosphere that only comes with LFW.

On the big screens

If you don’t have a ticket for the shows themselves – which are notoriously difficult to get – you can still enjoy the spectacle of the catwalk by positioning yourself by one of the outdoor screens that will be live-streaming the shows.

While this does mean you won’t get to brag about how close you were sat to Kim Kardashian-West, it ensures you don’t miss anything and know exactly what trends you should be following come AW16.

Century Club

One part of LFW that is open to the public is the London Fashion Week Talk Series, which features interviews with some of the biggest names in fashion. The talks take place at the Century Club on Shaftesbury Avenue and you will need to buy a ticket in advance.

If you want to learn more about fashion and find out what makes designers, photographers and other fashion favourites – including Luis Venegas, Solve Sundsbo and Gareth Pugh – tick, this is definitely worth going to.

Show your style

Of course, if you really want to make the most of LFW, you need to look the part. Photographers and members of the press are usually on the look out to snap some street style throughout the week, whether you’re going to the show or just walking past. This means that dressing for the occasion is a must.

When it comes to what you should wear, look at what is going to be coming into fashion for SS16 and include some key trends in your look. Some looks you should draw inspiration from include shift dresses in luxurious fabrics, gingham prints, bright colours, ruffles, metallics and stripes.

When it comes to accessories, bold backpacks and tiaras are two that you shouldn’t be afraid to wear, especially if you want to get noticed. However, the most important thing to remember is to dress in something that you are comfortable in, as this will ensure you stand out for all the right reasons.
